Garden Circle (The Circle Flute): The circle flute is a circular flute played by four flutists for one listener in the center of the flute. The circle has a diameter of 2.5m and consists of four interconnected c-flutes that are linked to each other by tube connectors. The artists Brynjar Sigurðarson and Veronika Sedlmair worked closely with renowned Parisian flute maker Jean-Yves Roosen and flutist Michael Schmid and completed the flute in Summer 2016. Immersed within and inspired by Iceland’s atmosphere, flutists Michael Schmid, Bjornar Habbestadt, Marieke Franssen, Bettina Berger and composer Þráinn Hjálmarsson explored the flute’s potential during a ten-day in-situ workshop in Flateyri, a small remote fishing village in the West- Fjords of Iceland. The outcome was performed throughout the exhibition FAISONS DE L’INCONNU UN ALLIÉ in Paris October 2016 by Fondation Galerie Lafayette, who produced the circle flute project. Directed by Emile Barret.
